What recommendations can you give for an 18-month-old with constant ear infections? I've read the posts on garlic and olive oil. Can you do that with children? Anything else?

Hold the baby upright during feeding, and wait a few minutes after feedings before putting the little one to bed.
Most ear infections in babies are started by milk running back into the ears, and an infection starts.

A few drops of warmed (not hot) sweet oil, in the ear works absolute wonders. I hope you are able to obtain sweet oil at you local herbalist. (It works for us!)

Sweet oil and olive oil are the same thing.

Im the age of antibiotics for children's ear infections, too many parents overlook the value of alternative treatments. And now that problems are occuring with bacterial resistance to antibiotics, those of us who preferred what our mothers did, may have been right!
My daughter was about 3 when she had her first ear infection. And sure enough, it was about 3 am, on a Sunday. My mother had used olive oil as I recalled, but I had none, but I did have some Vitamin E capsules my father-in-law had left after a visit a few weeks before. I pierced the capsules, and squirted the oil into a spoon. Did maybe four capsules. I warmed the oil, tested it on my wrist, and when it was body temperature, I poured it into her ear.
Now, she was in pain and terrified by my remedy, and screamed for about three minutes, then stopped, the pain all gone! She fell back to sleep very quickly and so did I. then, when she was aobut 11 or 12, she had a second ear infection and it hurt! She asked me to do the same thing I had done when she had had the last sore ear! The remedy was so quick and effective, she remembered it! I believe I had to use vegetable oil that time. But it did work.
Vitamin E oil is the best oil to use for this kind of infection or for any accessible infection. It speeds healing on any injury and aroudn here is used along with the aloe vera for burns, healing them almost overnight.
But please, the temperature to use, is when the oil dropped on the inside of your wrist and you don't even feel it. Then you know it will not burn the inside of the ear causing further damage.
