Capsaicin .025% cream is another possibility. Available at pharmacies, it's approved for "post-herpetic lesions" (shingles) but is often used against arthritis. Works by exhausting the body's local supply of pain neurotransmitters. Reportedly antiinflammatory as well. It takes at least 4-5 days to have any noticeable effect, other than irritation (it's the hot principle in red pepper).
