Melt the stearic acid in the liquid paraffin in a large shallow dish with the aid of gentle heat; dissolve the sodium carbonate in 35 (7 fluid ounces) of hot water, and gradually add this solution to the melted stearic acid and liquid paraffin, with constant stirring for three or four minutes; make the product weigh 50 (10 ounces) by the addition of hot water, and stir in the previously warmed solution of hamamelis; then remove from the source of heat, stir until cold, and beat to a foam.
