Make a mucilage by triturating the gum acacia in a mortar with an equal quantity of distilled water, add the almond oil in a slow stream, stirring lightly until the mixture appears uniform; then add gradually the remainder of the water. An alternative method of making this preparation is to triturate the almond oil with the gum acacia, add all at once twice as much distilled water as gum acacia used, make a primary emulsion, and add distilled water in small quantities up to the required volume.
