Tinctura Ferri Chloridi.

Botanical name:

Dose.—Of this agent, from gtt. x. to ʒss. or even ʒj., given largely diluted with water.

Tincture of Muriate of Iron, described under the class Astringents, is tonic, astringent and diuretic. It is thought to exert a specific influence over the urinary organs, and hence has been used in gleet, long-standing gonorrhoea, dysuria, irritability of the bladder, especially of females, in chronic mucous discharges from the genito-urinary organs; in passive uterine, renal, and vesical hemorrhages; and in spasmodic stricture of the urethra, preventing the introduction of the catheter. In the latter case from ten to twelve drops are given every ten minutes until the spasm is overcome.
