Gaultheria Procumbens. (Wintergreen.)

Preparation.—Prepare a tincture from the fresh plant, in the proportion of ℥viij. to Alcohol 98° Oj. Dose from gtts. ij. to gtts. x.
In this form and in these doses, the Gaultheria exerts a special influence upon the bladder, prostate and urethra, allaying irritation and inflammation. It may also he employed in dysuria. Probably one of its most important uses is, as an anaphrodisiac, exerting a direct and quite certain influence upon the reproductive organs of both male and female. For this purpose it is employed in some cases of spermatorrhoea. It will not do, however, to mistake the case, and use it where the venereal function is already impaired.
