Pacific northwest of America. The root of this plant is eaten by the Indians.
Calochortus luteus Dougl. Butterfly Tulip. Sego Lily.
Western United States. This plant has a small, bulbous root about the size of a walnut, very palatable and nutritious and much used by the Indian tribes of Utah as an article of food. The Mormons during their first years in Utah consumed the root in large quantities.
