Oil of Ylang Ylang.

Oil of Ylang Ylang. Cananga Oil. Oleum Anonae. Oleum Unonae.—This is a volatile oil obtained from the flowers of Cananga odorata Hook. f. and Thoms. (Fam. Anonaceae), a large tree inhabiting most parts of Southern Asia; the oil from the Philippine Islands is especially esteemed. According to Schimmel & Co. (Schim. Rep., April, 1897), it contains pinene, linalool, geraniol, esters of acetic and benzoic acids, cadinene, and para-cresol-methyl ester. It is used only as a perfume. (See N. R., April, 1881.) The so-called Macassar hair oil is said to be a solution of it in coconut oil. (See A. J. P., 1881, 123; also A.J. P., 1893, 529.)
