Cacur

Cacur.—This is a small gourd which, while still unripe, is used by the Kaffirs as an emetic, and which, according to Oliver, is yielded by the Cucumis myriocarpus Naud. (Fam. Cucurbitaceae.) G. A. Atkinson (A. J. P., 1887) obtained from it a neutral resinous body, myriocarpin, and found that twenty grains (1.3 Gm.) of the fresh pulp produced in man nausea and slight purgation. (Ed. M.
