Owala Grains.—The seeds of this plant, which grows in the Congo States, are said to contain an alkaloid, paucine, crystallizing in yellow foliaceous crystals, melting at 126° C. (258.8° F.), insoluble in ether and chloroform, having the formula C27H38O5.5. (P. J., lix.) Paucine hydrochloride, C27H39O5.5 2HCl + 6H2O, is marketed by Merck and Co., and is stated to be physiologically inactive.
