Doing without carbs.
Getting rid of the carbohydrate addiction.
As a herbalist, I give herbs for the liver whenever somebody craves sweets. The craving is gone like [snap] that. Ladies usually get sugar cravings before menses, and that's a surefire sign that their sugar metabolism is out of balance; the imbalances just show up more strongly just before menses.
You can ask guys about the amount of candy wrappers they discard; they don't always seem to be able to keep track of their sugar intake from what they buy, but they do know how often they have to clean out the candy wrappers from the floor of their car.
What liver herbs, you ask? Read my blog post about hot vs. cold liver, it's all outlined there.
It's difficult to do without carbohydrates at first; people who've been hooked on both simple carbs and one or the other recreational drug say that the carbs are worse to get rid of. Eat a spoonful of peanut butter whenever things get too bad, exercise, do the liver herbs, and take magnesium, chromium, and B6 (among others) every day for 10-14 days.
After that you're rid of your simple carb addiction. And if there's adult-onset diabetes in your family, you're a lot less likely to ever go there yourself.
In fact, you'll feel so much better that you'll be tempted to get all the adult-onset diabetics you know off the carbohydrate train. You're in for a surprise: people are people, and don't like other people telling them what to do. They might go there on their own, but they're very much less likely to do so if you push them there every chance you get.

I've found that a lot of
I've found that a lot of people who crave sweets end up realizing they were really craving bitters... they never knew it, since they never consumed any bitters outside of beer or too strong/burnt coffee. but the reason the sweets/simple carbs never satisfied the cravings is because that wasn't what the craving really was for...
Most liver herbs are, of course, more or less bitter.
Sweet Flag/Calamus root is an excellent means of quelling addiction pangs, and satiates the oral fixation, too.
Though I ain't addicted to
